17.5.09: I don't plan to update these charts any more as it seems that only a small fraction of cases are now being reported. The actual number may be slightly, much or monumentally higher than the official WHO figures.
These charts are based on the World Health Organisation's daily updates that report new cases of the influenza A (H1N1) or swine flu outbreak originating in Mexico:
- Total confirmed cases and deaths
- Absolute and relative change in cases and deaths per day
- Each country's cases in absolute numbers and as a proportion of the worldwide total, by tier of country:
- Tier 1 countries: >10% of the worldwide total
- Tier 2 countries: 1-10% of the worldwide total
- Tier 3 countries: <1% of the worldwide total
- Total deaths per country
- Total deaths as a proportion of total cases on the same day (i.e. does not take into account lag between infection and death)
- Total cases relative to size of population (cases per million inhabitants)
-
- Total cases relative to size of country (cases per 1,000 sq km land mass)
- Total deaths relative to size of population (deaths per million inhabitants)
